DOT physical

Your DOT physical without losing a day of work.

Open until 9 PM Monday to Saturday, and Sundays too. Walk in. Certified examiner on the FMCSA National Registry.

01The hours

When you can not when they open

The usual hours for getting a DOT physical are Monday to Friday, 8 to 5. Exactly the hours a driver is working.

Here it runs across all our hours, evenings and Sundays included. You come in when the route is done, not when it costs you a day of pay.

Monday to Saturday
8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Sundays
10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
No appointment
You can book, but you do not need to. Walk-ins are seen in the order they arrive.

02The price

What it costs and what it covers

$110The exam and the certificate.

Included
The full exam and the certification filed in your name.
Not included
Extra testing if your case needs it. If it does, you hear the price first.
With insurance
A DOT physical is rarely covered by any insurance. The driver or the company pays it.

Around Garland you will see $50 and up. Cheap or not, the thing to ask every time is whether the person examining you is on the National Registry: a certificate from someone who is not does not count, and you find that out after paying for it.

03Before you come

What to bring so you only come once

None of this is a surprise on the day, and having it with you saves a second trip.

  • Your driver's licence
  • The glasses or contacts you drive in
  • Your hearing aid, if you use one
  • A list of your medications, with doses
  • If you use insulin, your doctor's form
  • If you use CPAP, your compliance report

And check us too. The FMCSA National Registry is public and searchable by zip code: ours is 75041. Search the National Registry

04The exam

What gets checked and what the rule says

What follows is not our opinion: these are the minimums set by 49 CFR 391.41, the federal rule this exam runs on.

Vision
At least 20/40 in each eye, 70 degrees of field, and recognising traffic signal colours. Corrective lenses count: the rule says so explicitly.
Hearing
Hearing a forced whisper at 5 feet in the better ear, or no more than 40 dB average loss on the audiometric test. A hearing aid counts too.
Diabetes
Using insulin no longer disqualifies you on its own. With the form from the doctor treating you, you can be certified.
Blood pressure
The rule sets no number at all: it says there must be no diagnosis of high blood pressure likely to interfere with driving safely. Anyone telling you the law demands an exact figure is making it up.
Medication
What a doctor who knows your history prescribed, having judged it will not affect your driving, is allowed.

If something comes back out of range, you leave knowing what it is and what it takes to sort it out. Plenty of it gets resolved with a form from your own doctor or a shorter recheck.

05Questions

Common questions actually answered

How much does a DOT physical cost?
Here it is $110, exam and certificate. Around Garland you will see $50 and up. The thing worth asking either way is whether the person examining you is on the FMCSA National Registry, because a certificate from someone who is not does not count — and you find that out after you have paid for it.
What disqualifies you from a DOT physical?
Less than people think, and the rule is more specific than it looks. Vision and hearing have exact minimums, and glasses and hearing aids count toward them. Insulin stopped being disqualifying on its own. On blood pressure the rule sets no figure at all: it talks about there being no diagnosis that interferes with driving safely. What does keep you out is Schedule I medication and certain stimulants and narcotics.
How long is a DOT medical certificate good for?
The maximum is 24 months. Shorter certificates — a year, or three months — get issued when something is worth rechecking sooner, like blood pressure under treatment. A short certificate is not a fail: it is a recheck with a date on it.
Where can I get a DOT physical near me today?
If you are in or around Garland, here — walk in, until 9 PM Monday to Saturday, Sundays included. That is the part almost nobody else offers: plenty of places do the exam, but Monday to Friday, 8 to 5.

Amazing place and exceptional care. The doctors, nurses, and really the entire staff cares about patients and will do everything they can to help you, without trying invasive procedures first. They don’t take insurance but their charges are more than reasonable. I don’t have one bad thing to say and will definitely come back here for all my future doctor appointments. Thank you!
